My name is Lidia (Lili for friends). I am Life-Lover, a Learner and a Sharer.

LifeinLili was born out of my desire to feel good in my skin.

The inspiration came from my own struggles and how the discovery of Self Care changed my life.

I love to go around talking about the importance of Self Care, because I believe that Self Care is a pathway for love, belonging and happiness. To understand this you have to understand where I am coming from.

I was a happy child, in a happy family with a good life until my parents separated. This single event changed my life dramatically and sparked a series of constant changes. Think a softer version of Lemony Snicket with me moving around several times.

I finally found some stability at the Nuns’ Boarding school in my early teens. The nuns raised me and taught me everything I know and all life skills possible to mankind: to sing, speak in public, to have table manners, to sew, to peel potatoes, to put enough salt and wash the pigs’ house, etc. They called it '‘The Art of Good Living.”

During my teenagerhood and twenties, I struggled with self esteem, anxiety, body and relationships issues.

But despite these challenges, I have managed to successfully graduate from a top university, travel, work and live around the world.

I was proud because I built the lifestyle I promised to give myself as a child: I had my own little and beautiful flat in the centre of the city, had a good job, good friends, but rarely ‘’normal’’ boyfriends. Right there, I knew you can’t have it all at the same time.

All my achievements were possible because of my ‘benefactors’- a group of people who loved me and supported me unconditionally. That includes the nuns who raised me; some of my relatives; my teachers, my friends and their families; my books and my role models, especially Oprah, Tupac, Chris Rock and Frank McCourt.

In my late twenties, the impact of my adverse childhood experiences started arising.

I also went through a series of events that changed my life dramatically: the loss of my father and a burnout which led me to a serious illness.

At that point in my life, it felt like I’ve hit the rock bottom. Life suddenly seemed not worth living.

It was the feelings of emptiness and hopefulness that prompted me to embark on a search for love, healing and meaning.

It was also during this period that I discovered the power of Self Care and learned three powerful lessons.

#1-Self Care is a Choice

It can transform your life at all levels.

Today I am here and I love myself more because I have chosen to look after myself first.

I was raised by strong women who believed that to love is to be selfless and to sacrifice oneself for everyone, leaving your own needs to last.

I had to let that go and re-learn that living a good life is foremost about caring for myself first.

It was only when I learned to take care of myself, I could then go on learning to love myself, which then made it possible to love and care for others too.

#2-Self Care is about befriending yourself

We tend to be kinder to others than to ourselves. So at first, practicing kindness towards oneself might feel foreign to us. I wasn’t different.

It took time, but I eventually realised that the easiest way to learn to show love and kindness to myself was to look after myself as I would do to my best friend.

It’s all about treating myself with the same degree of love, respect and appreciation I would do to someone I genuinely care for.

In the process, I have learned to love and approve of myself just as I am and where I am without the “ifs” and “buts”. It’s called unconditional positive regard which simply means unconditional love. And that made my life easier at all levels.

Nowadays, I feel calmer, much more relaxed and happier. It’s a #notperfect life – and by the way, there is not such thing- but it’s a life where most of the days I feel good in my skin and I enjoy my life as it is. That was all what I wanted growing up.

#3-Self Care is not a destination but a journey

I am not a “Guru” of Self Care, but a learner like you.

Every day, I have to remind myself to practice Self Care.

It’s a practice for life, not only for the days I “feel like it” but also for the days “I don’t feel like it”.

I became so passionate about Self Care that I felt compelled to share it with others.

I believe that learning to look after oneself and to love oneself is the first step for to feel good and enjoy life.

That’s what I am here for. That’s what gives life to LifeinLili and all my other projects.

#1-I love Variety which some claim to be ‘the spice of life’. That’s why I love food and I have never been able to have only one job at time.

#2-I am a citizen of the World. I am a third culture kid who speaks 6 languages. I have travelled, lived and worked around the globe, but London is my favourite place to be at the moment.

#3-Meditation is my secret weapon. It helps me stay grounded and sane.

#4-I love opera, standup comedy, rap music and Star Trek. Yes, just like that!

#5-‘‘I have a dream’’ too. My dream is to bring The Feel Good Club to as many communities as possible.
