Sometimes people ask me what I do and when I tell them that I am a Wellbeing&Lifestyle Designer, they will usually reply one of the following:
- Lifestyle Designer? What is that?
- Is it like Interior Designer?
I already know that I am in for a long and deep conversation because the concept of Lifestyle still very confusing to many people and that is totally understandable.
We have been made to believe that Lifestyle means the same to everyone and applies to a few lucky ones, namely wealthy, young and beautiful celebrities, sportsmen and entrepreneurs.
Let’s dig deeper and find out what Lifestyle really is.
The Myths surrounding Lifestyle
These are the two main myths that I constantly came across when it comes to lifestyle.
The word Lifestyle has been vastly used to convey the idea of material affluence, luxury, and leisure which made people associate Lifestyle almost automatically with designer goods, champagne, travel, and celebrities. Almost like a billionaire boys club sort of thing.
Lifestyle has also been made synonym with personal freedom - An idea widespread with a new type of professionals who want to ditch 9-5, office jobs and travel around the world and run their business from exotic remote locations from their laptops. It’s the work hard, play and enjoy hard kind of mindset.
It’s almost as if you can only have a good lifestyle if you work for yourself. The internet is full of experts and all sort of experts promising to help you ditch your boring job and embark on being a digital entrepreneur traveling around the world, working for anywhere or becoming a Mumpreneuer and make tons of money while watching your kids play football.
Being your own boss and being location independent. What else could you ask for?! Very enticing, I know.
lifestyle is so much simpler than you think
Lifestyle is the way in which you organise and live your life on a day-to-day basis. If this is too simple, then here is a more complex and super posh version of the whole thing:
Lifestyle is important
Your level of Wellbeing and the general state of your life will be very influenced by your Lifestyle choices. Your choices permeate your environment, work, behaviours and relationships.
Lifestyle is personal
You lifestyle is influenced by your upbringing, social background, education, environment, work and personality.
Modern life has brought with it a new phenomenon called Lifestyle Creation or Lifestyle Design. That means each individual has the right and freedom to decide how they want to live their life.
Whether you want an affluent lifestyle, minimalist lifestyle, James Bond lifestyle, simple lifestyle, rich lifestyle or frugal lifestyle, or running your own location independent business that provides a passive income with minimal input from you, the choice is yours!
However, for you to make beneficial the right choices which will lead to you desired Lifestyle, you need to know what is the right choice for you; have the resources and support; and take actions to make it happen.
You might already have some of the resources necessary to make your Lifestyle choices, but if you want to step up to a further level, a Lifestyle Designer can help you big time.
You can design and create your own lifestyle
A Lifestyle Designer can help you transit from a busy life to a more balanced and fulfilled life by sharing with you ways to supercharge your Wellbeing and empower you to make the necessary lifestyle changes.
A Lifestyle Designer is not necessarily a Coach, but might also use Coaching methods and a blend of different techniques and skills to get you from where you are to where you want to be. This will help you:
Simplify your routine and get your living and working space organised;
Uncover and replace the limiting beliefs and personal habits that might be stopping you from achieving the results you want.
Create a vision and take actions in the direction of the life you want and deserve.
Lifestyle is the art of discovering ways to live uniquely
Only you know what lifestyle suits you best.
I personally became interested in Lifestyle more than a decade ago when Lifestyle Design wasn’t even a thing yet.
The death of my dad combined with a burnout was my wake up call. It made me re-examine my life and put many things into perspective. I really didn’t want to continue to live the way I was living anymore.
Now, I am living a life where I feel good and enjoy more. I also help others do the same.
No matter your actual circumstances, I still believe you can use what you already have in this moment to get started. The purpose is to help you organise and live your life according to your values and priorities in order to manifest your desired lifestyle.
It’s never too late.
I have developed methods and tools that can help you take action in an intentional and clear way.
